Can't taste or smell at all after a cold?

I had the worst cold of my life this week... fever for 3 days and then completely congested for another 3. But now I'm getting over the cold and I can't taste or smell anything at all. I can breathe through my nose just fine, but no matter what I try to eat or smell, all i can taste is this weird metallic taste thats constantly in my mouth. Should i be worried about this? Could I have permanently lost my sense of smell/taste?
