Is there a book that you read and you finshed reading and thought O_O?

A Seperate Peace by John Steinbeck. That man is a TERRIBLE author. It's about a boy at a private school who is really jealous of his best friend (but the way he describes it it sounds more like he has a crush on him) so he pushes him out of a tree, and he goes to the hospital. But then he helps him get better, and something else happens to the friend, and he dies. And there's another character who is sort of a hippie, but then fights in the war and goes insane. I finished that book, and I thought "What the **** did I just read?"
